It’s that time of year again when it is getting cold and dark earlier and we find our avid outdoors sports fans looking for a place to release some of their competitive spirit. The fall and football seasons are coming to an end and basketball is getting into the heat of the schedule at all levels. Basketball is a great way to get together with some friends or colleagues and play some pick up basketball while staying in the warm, as well as many great benefits to your exercising.
Many don’t like to walk, run, or bike in place, whereas an activity such as basketball can help you to increase your cardio. However, it should not be a replacement for lifting weights and cardio. Lifting weights and cardio combined can be a huge benefit not only to your basketball game but also to all of your everyday things you do such as playing with the kids/grand-kids, going to work, cleaning up around the house, etc. No matter what you are doing if your cardiovascular system and muscles are healthy and strong, you will never fall behind on the things you love to do.
If you feel as if you didn’t get enough cardio in while playing basketball then finish up your workout with a brief bike or elliptical workout and lifting weights for around 30 minutes and you will become stronger and in better cardiovascular shape. Basketball is a great alternative way to do some running while letting your competitive edge come out with your friends and also moving your body in ways that we normally wouldn’t. This keeps us ready for any situation that arises in our lives. You will also meet a lot of great new people while playing the game that have the same love for sports as you do! Get out there and put basketball into your weekly exercise routine.
The Athletic Club has pick up basketball the following times. In addition, you can also reserve the gym to play a private game. We have basketballs you can borrow so just bring yourself!
