Many of you attend our group fitness classes religiously without fail, making this one of our most popular offerings here at The Athletic Club! However, I would say that just as many of you might be eager to try these classes, but may not be fully aware of what they offer or how they can benefit you. I thought the beginning of the new year might be the perfect time to do a quick refresher course on some of our most highly coveted classes.
This class was invented in the mid 1990’s by a Colombian instructor and dancer named Alberto Perez. The choreography of this class includes combinations of Salsa, Merengue, Mambo and several other Latin inspired dances. This is a high intensity class in which you are constantly moving the entire time, usually about an hour or so, to high energy, upbeat dance music!
It is very popular here and all over the country. We have a lot of people who have been coming to this class at our club for a long time! It is one of my personal favorites and I believe it can be done by just about anyone. Even if you find some of the moves might be a little much, you can still take it at your own pace and easily keep up.
Although people of any age can and do attend these classes, they are especially good for you if you have restrictions that make it harder to do traditional exercises. This low impact, resistance training class is usually performed waist deep or so, in a shallow end of the pool. Most of the movements are done vertically and focus on giving you a full body, cardiovascular workout in a more relaxed and inviting environment. We currently have 5 different water inspired classes – Aquarobics, H2O Hover, Water moves, Aqua Box and H2O Core and more.
I would highly encourage you to try one of these!
The Long Ride
Cycling is probably one of the most popular cardio exercises out there right now, and at our club. I personally have a ton of friends who are into it, and belong to different cycling clubs around the city. This is definitely something people love to do in groups! It is my favorite form of cardio and I love the way it makes me feel afterwards. Being much less impact on my body than running, it still offers many of the same results, if not more. This specific class offers you the flexibility of starting and stopping at any time, as it runs longer than most at 90 minutes per class. Feel free to come test your endurance and join in the fun at any time!
Thanks so much for joining me today! Don’t forget to stay positive and LOVE YOUR LIFE!!
