The 13th annual Ghost of Georgetown IRT Kansas City racquetball tournament was held at the Athletic Club September 12-15. Over 140 players from all around the world competed for 1stplace. Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico City, and Canada all had players representing their country. Skill and age ranged from C level to pro, 11 years old to seniors 60+.
Records were destroyed this year but not the records that were expected! Kane Waselenchuk has dominated the Pro racquetball circuit for 5 years and was scheduled to destroy Cliff Swain’s previous record of 70 straight wins on Sunday. Kane lost in the semi-finals in 4 games to 5th seeded Jose Rojas. The skill and athleticism of both players was on full display the entire match. The finals pitted #2 seeded player Rocky Carson against Jose Rojas on Sunday. The match lasted nearly 3 hours and went to 5 games. Jose was able to beat Rocky In the tiebreaker 13-11. Jose broke the record previously held by Jason Mannino in 1999-2000 season for beating the #1 and #2 players in the same tournament.
You can watch the finals match in its entirety as well as many of the other high octane matches of the weekend here www.irtnetwork.com. The amateur circuit was full of exciting upsets as well. Congratulations to all the players and fans who traveled near and far to be a part of the action. Overall the tournament provided days of exciting spectating and participation in one of the largest tournaments of the year. The tournament Charity, Harvester’s, also saw great participation. Over $1000.00 was raised through donations and the live auction event.
