The Athletic Club hosts the state’s largest Table Tennis Club with nearly 70 people attending organized practices 3 times a week. The club boasts several national level champions ranging from the Senior Division down to 10 years and under division. Club organizers Parviz Mojaverian, Vladimir Altman, and Dinu Varghese all hold national championship titles in their respective age and skill divisions. Other national and state level champions in the group include Jeff Johnston who holds the 40+ championship and Lavania M. holds second place in 10 year and under division table tennis. She trains regularly and is considered an Olympic hopeful. The Athletic Club is a USATT sanctioned facility and holds 3 tournaments a year.
Table tennis is a wonderful sport for people of all abilities. It is gentle on the body- a Lifetime Sport- and at the competitive level table tennis can be a good workout. It builds coordination, flexibility, and endurance. Studies have shown that table tennis can improve mental focus and memory. The Athletic Club offers table tennis on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00pm-9:30pm and on Saturdays from 2:00pm-7:00pm. There are 11 professional tables and equipment available for use during these times. Instruction, camaraderie, and good times are had by all! Lessons are available for those wanting to take their game to the next level.
