Overland Park Pickleball Info from TAC

Overland Park pickleball has come to the Athletic Club! What is Pickleball you may ask? Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America today!

Overland Park pickleball is a sport that people of various ages and levels of skill can have fun with! Pickleball is a combination of different parts of badmintion, ping-pong, and tennis. It can be played on a court either inside or outdoors. It is played with a plastic hollow ball and a pickleball paddle.

Pickleball was started in 1965 by 3 men, Bill Bell, Joel Pritchard, and Barney McCallum who wanted to create something different for their children to do. Over time, pickleball has evolved and gained popularity.

A pickleball court can be easily set up using a doubles badminton court and changing the net height.

Pickleball Pointers:

  • Learn the basics- This may seem silly, but if you don’t do this from the start it can cause you to get called out later for basic rule violations.
  • Get in the right stance.
  • Avoid hitting to another player’s strong side.
  • Avoid trying to hit the ball hard or towards the sidelines- It is too risky. If you are patient, your opponent will make mistakes on their own.
