Overland Park Summer Sports Leagues, Pick-up games, & Tournaments.
It’s June. Summer is finally rolling. No chance of freezing weather. The sun is hot, water is warm and Kansas City is blanketed in BBQ smoke and humidity. The Athletic Club provides numerous competitive indoor activities for those looking to escape the heat. Take a look at what is offered and come by over lunch or after work to see the action for you.
Do you play Basketball? The Athletic Club Basketball leagues are filling and expanding. Monday, Wednesday and Friday 12:00-1:00 ballers serve layups for lunch. If you have to return to the office after your games the locker rooms offer showers, hot tub, cold plunge, steam room, sauna, and full service amenities. Evening pick up time times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7. The Courtside Fresh Grill and Bar offers a nice selection of post-game libations, appetizers, and meals.
Like hands at mosquitoes, racquetball leagues are in full swing this time of year. The summer sports league began in May and goes through August. If you missed the chance to be in the leagues and want to get playing consistently consider signing up for a 5 week instructional clinic with club pro Lucy DelSarto. The cost is $80. The connections, knowledge and skills gained are invaluable. Call Lucy at 913-709-6059
If you already play and want to see how your game stacks up against others in the racquetball community consider registering for the Summer Sizzler Shootout Racquetball Tournament June 21st 2014. It is a one day tournament played in round robin format. Divisions for men, women, mixed, singles and doubles are available. Skill levels will be available in C-Open. Shoot outs are much like khaki cargo pants, light on commitment and low pressure.
Table Tennis and Badminton Groups are growing as quickly as the prairie grasses of the Flint Hills.

All skill levels are encouraged to play. Group Mentors will help introduce you to the sport and provide instruction.
