Here is Jessica’s take on the Athletic Club and it’s Overland Park group fitness classes.
Exercise has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. As a child, my parents would tote my siblings and me out to the track so they could work out (and we could play in the “sandbox” at the end of the long-jump runway). I was involved in athletics at an early age and continued to compete all through college, which is where I met my husband. He is an athlete, too. So, naturally, when we moved to Kansas City, we stayed active.
When we learned we were pregnant with our first baby, we decided to find a gym where we’d be really connected. It was important to us to find a place with a wide variety of amenities along with high availability, so we chose the Athletic Club of Overland Park. During one of the hottest summers in the history of Kansas City, the three of us (my husband, our unborn baby, and I) spent several days a week utilizing the racquetball courts, the basketball gym, the weight room, the bikes in the cardio room, and the pool. I stayed very fit throughout my pregnancy thanks to the easy access to so many enjoyable, safe activities at the Athletic Club of Overland Park
We got to know several of the employees at the gym, and they were always friendly, helpful, and encouraging. As I progressed further in pregnancy, my activities got fewer and fewer, but the week I gave birth I was still in the gym shooting baskets and walking. My delivery went very well, and my recovery was quick and relatively “easy.”
Once I could start getting back into shape, I again frequented the Athletic Club of Overland Park. It worked out really well for my husband and I to meet at the gym to exercise together because we could let our daughter stay in the nursery at the gym. The staff does a great job with the kids, and we never worried about our daughter’s safety.
Over the course of the next several months, I stared doing Zumba classes and water aerobics. I had a lot of fun and was able to trim down without feeling like I was “working too hard.” I was below my pre-conception weight before Josie turned one. I continue to stay active by participating in classes and enjoying the many different workout options available at the Athletic Club of Overland Park. My husband and I hope that we are setting a good example for our daughter by showing her how much fun it is to stay in shape. Good physical health has such a big impact in our lives. Hopefully it is something Josie will enjoy as much as we do!
